We don't need no education

While working on a presentation and listening to some Pink Floyd...(that's a good thing isn't it)?, I heard the all so familiar "we don't need no education", ironically, just as I was inserting the attached image into a slide. Sadly, similar examples of 'unsafe' working at height can be found in many locations of the world and I assure you it's not just specific to countries where the HSE have no influence. I looked at the UK, HSE Statistics for 2016-2017 http://www.hse.gov.uk/statistics/causinj/kinds-of-accident.pdf and we don't appear to be getting 'safer' at certain activities despite the number of 'worst case events' that are reported and documented. In 2016/17, 137 workers were killed at work and an estimated 609,000 workers suffered non-fatal injuries as a result of work activity, resulting in around 5.5 million working days lost.
Despite long term reductions in the number of workers injured each year, the kinds of accident sustained (and their profile in relation to severity) remain similar year-on-year.The second image provides the statistical and alarming 'wake up call'...let's not be a part of that statistic for 2017-2018!
